About
Jay’s Afro Hands is a cultural and creative haircare brand built from the roots up. It’s not just about styling hair—it’s about nurturing identity, honoring heritage, and bringing confidence to the crown. Created by Nigerian-American loctitian Jackie Okwumabua, this brand is for the people who take pride in showing up in their full glory. Jay’s Afro Hands is where tradition meets transformation.
STORY
Hair wasn’t my first love, but it became my loudest. Jay’s Afro Hands started as me doing my friends and family’s hair—no glam squad, just love, vibes, and hands that knew how to create magic. Over time, I realized that this was more than a hustle—it was my identity. As a Nigerian-American woman, the name "Jay’s Afro Hands" represents both my culture and my calling. It reflects the way I care for hair with intention and precision.
"I didn’t build this brand just to style hair. I built it to create a space where people who look like me feel safe, seen, and celebrated. Where they leave my chair knowing they can walk into any room, chin up, crown set. Whether it’s a military client with handmade locs installed in one week or someone just starting their journey, I bring transformation that lasts—inside and out."
- Jackie Okwumabua, Founder of Jay's Afro Hands
